Taping Techniques

Kinesiology tape is an elastic cotton band with an acrylic adhesive used for treating athletic injuries and a variety of physical disorders. In general kinesiology tape is able to stretch up to 120–140% of its original length. As a result, if the tape is applied with a stretch greater than its normal length, it will "recoil" after application and therefore create a pulling force on the skin or muscle involved.

In our clinic we use ROCKTAPE! Due to its stronger adhesive it is the only kinesiology tape engineered to meet the demands of endurance athletes like runners, swimmers, and cyclists, but works for the active individual as well. Additionally, ROCKTAPE stretches up to 190% of its original length and has better ’snap-back’ or recoil than competing brands.

ROCKTAPE helps:

  • Enhance performance
  • Prevent fatigue
  • Promote circulation
  • Remove lactic acid

Unlike traditional athletic tape, which binds and doesn’t stretch, ROCKTAPE is engineered to mimic the human skin. ROCKTAPE can be applied as compression to promote recovery or used as decompression to relieve pain and swelling. ROCKTAPE can also be used to stabilize muscles and joints that have been sprained or hurt and provides support and stability without constraining and reducing blood flow – which are downsides of utilizing braces and sleeves. Thus, the tape’s capabilities make it well suited to the repair of localized muscle groups.

The same science that is used to treat injuries can be applied to promote better circulation and lymph drainage for sports applications. By applying ROCKTAPE to a specific muscle group, we are able to reduce muscle vibration, accelerate blood flow out of the muscles to encourage oxygenation and promote lymph drainage, which helps remove lactic acid. These functions provide the active individual with additional endurance and help promote recovery.

Whether used for muscle repair, stability management, recovery or enhanced performance, ROCKTAPE can be a valuable component in your toolkit, and can be purchased right here in our clinic.

What does it do?
ROCKTAPE helps you go faster by reducing muscle vibration which can cause fatigue and helps promote blood flow and lactic acid removal.

How does it work?
When applied properly, ROCKTAPE lifts the skin away from the muscle, which promotes blood flow. Faster blood flow means more oxygen and more lymph drainage, which helps remove Lactic Acid.

Is it difficult to apply?
Not at all! If you can apply tape, you can apply ROCKTAPE. There are instructions in every box and more than a dozen HD instructional videos can be viewed at www.rocktape.com.

Will it work under compression shorts?
When worn under compression shorts, ROCKTAPE’s lifting mechanism is unavailable. But as soon as the shorts are removed, the tape can begin to lift and help promote recovery.

How long will it last?
ROCKTAPE can be worn 2-3 days. It is 100% organic cotton and can be worn while swimming or in the shower.

How much does it cost?
Each roll retails for $20. A roll will last for about 10-20 applications, or about one to two months, depending on frequency and length of applications.
